T he monks of New Melleray Abbey invite you to Lunch and Learn. Come to the monastery and experience a rare glimpse into the life of the Trappist monks and their work of Trappist Caskets. During your visit, a monk will provide a brief introduction to the cloistered life at The Abbey. An opportunity to observe the monks as they gather in their limestone church and chant mid-day prayers, will be followed by a hearty lunch in the monastery guesthouse. During lunch, your hosts will discuss Trappist traditions and describe the monks’ ministry of Trappist Caskets, considered a corporal work of mercy. A casual discussion on end- of-life issues and mindful planning will bring the lunch to an end. After lunch, you will be invited to tour the monastery woodwork- ing facility. There is no charge but each session is limited to 30 participants. We will meet at New Melleray Abbey Church. Reserva- tions with AmeriClub are required, as are cancellations at least three days prior to the session. When registering, please state which date you prefer to attend. Directions: From the Julien Dubuque Bridge at the intersection of Hwy 20 and 151, [take] Hwy 151 south for 10 miles. At the “New Melleray Abbey” sign, go right onto Monastery Road. Go two miles on Monastery Road. The entrance is on the right.
